The Reality Of Permanently Working From Home

 In Blog

As our society continues to battle the pandemic and social distancing is imperative in preventing further spread, many employers are being forced to have most, if not all, of their staff work from home. Waves of infections have created uncertainty for many when trying to decide when it is safe to have everyone show up for work at the office again. And it begs the question, should we prepare for a permanent work-from-home solution to our businesses?

The answer is undoubtedly, yes. Even if circumstances change and we can return the staff to the office safely, having the option of reducing the overhead expenses of a physical office while keeping an efficient workforce is always a good idea.

Efficiency is one of the main concerns of remote work. Different personalities require different settings to thrive. For some, it is near impossible to focus while they are somewhere where there is lots of noise. For others, having too much silence is uncomfortable and lowers their productivity. Having the flexibility of working remotely allows for people to work in a setting where they are most comfortable and productive. But how do employers know that their staff if being productive on a daily basis?

Technology has come a long way, and we now have the tools and resources necessary to accommodate a large variety of working environments. And while it may sound invasive to deploy an employee monitoring tool, it is a central piece in running a smooth remote operation. It will give employers a virtual picture of the work that is being completed.

Something similar to a scene of a sci-fi movie, employers are able to view their staff as a collection of values that depict their performance. A dashboard with a graphs and stats and drill down menus allows them to have visibility on their productivity. Real time views of employee’s screens can be accessed with the click of a button. Idle times, applications that are opened, files they are accessing, all monitored.

The fear of having employees misuse company time while not being physically monitored is alleviated with this type of solution. Employers can rest assured that their staff is productive, and are thus able to focus on other aspects of their business.
