A user in Dallas put in a ticket to prevent automatic Windows updates from being applied on her Dell laptop.

This particular client is hourly and not on the iTecs Managed Services Program so we did not have our RMM tool stack which manages Windows update installed. Since the client is on our hourly model, we generally do not try to dictate their Windows update policies and only react to their break-fix support needs.

The iTecs support rep who worked with this customer provided her the following as a resolution to the ticket.

Hope you are having a good morning.
For security purposes, we do not recommend disabling automatic updates. However, you can pause the updates for a period of time through the settings panel. The steps are below:
1. Search for "Settings" and click on the "Settings" application
2. On the left side, click on Windows Update
3. Then you can set the "Pause updates" option to 1-5 weeks.
Please let us know if you need further assistance with these steps.

The user responded that they understood and appreciated the tips on how to disable or pause Windows updates from being applied to her Dell laptop.
